The cave is filled with cultural facts and features birds of prey. The history of the cave is interesting. The Ailwee Cave was formed and carved by the glacial melt waters of an early ice age. The erosive power of the glacial waters carved out a subterranean river deep beneath the Aillwee mountain. Now, this underground river has stopped flowing since the latest ice age, and has left behind one of Ireland's most stunning caves. The natural beauty of Ireland's west coast abounds here. You will see ancient statutes where man first came to the area. You will see beautiful mountains overlooking the sea. With a rugged terrain, it is a great place for you to come and walk or hike and enjoy the natural surrounds. Do not be surprised if during your hike that you see some of the mountain creatures venturing out on some granite steps of the mountain. But be careful as there are cliffs to watch out for.
